Some institutions also have policies that allow faculty to work less than full-time while remaining on a tenure-eligible track. In 2005, such policies were available at thirty-seven (31%) medical schools offering tenure, but again, most faculty do not use them. Of the thirty-seven medical schools with part-time tenure policies, twenty-three were able to provide recent data on the number of tenure-track faculty who worked less than full-time. At these institutions, an average of 4.1 men and 4.3 women at each institution used the policy each year in 2003ā2004 and 2004ā2005.
