As with an in-home provider, you also take your child somewhere outside of your own house each morning if you choose to send your child(ren) to daycare. On the upside, daycares are wonderful places for children to get socialized and are relatively affordable. On the downside, most daycares are not as flexible as some doctors need them to be (for example, they don’t really care if you have an early meeting or a patient with a chain saw in his neck). Also, daycares can resemble Petri dishes, cultivating a variety of microbes, especially in the winter months. Over time, your child’s immune system will be boosted but that may be of minimal consolation to you when you have thirty patients scheduled or a grant due and your kid has a fever and is sent home until he or she has been afebrile for 24 hours.
